2023 - A Year of connection

Personal and professional growth are very important to me but I'm not a "new year new me" type of gal, or someone who likes to publicize all of my plans. That's not to say I don't have any, but I find the tidal wave of end-of-year recaps and resolutions to feel overwhelming and inauthentic for me to jump on board with.

I'm always seeking opportunities to learn - whether it's through therapy, coaching, classes, or self love. But having been through a lot in the last 5 years, I also recognize that life throws constant curveballs at you, and planning out an entire year could lead to disappointment and frustration. If the last few years have taught us anything, it's that the only constant is change. That's why I was thrilled when my narration coach suggested that I come up with a theme for the year instead.

A theme is a navigation tool that's especially helpful in managing expectations. Maybe you weren't able to accomplish exactly what you wanted but connecting with a theme keeps you grounded with a purpose that can be fulfilling.

My theme for 2023 is "connection" which means a few different things to me:

  1. Connecting with others. This year I'm hoping to make more "work friends" in the audiobook world and to connect with more professionals on the publishing and production side. As an introvert I love the self-lead work in the quiet of my booth but it's time to put myself out there!

  2. Connecting with the work. With the growing threat of AI narration, I'm interested in finding new ways to connect with the work in a personal and profound way. I've started a journal to jot down a couple notes for each audiobook at the start and end of production. Picking a couple of smaller "themes" to honor during recording and reflecting on some positive takeaways at the end.

  3. Connecting with self. This is a big one - I'm making space to honor my emotional, physical, and psychological needs. I'm tuning into the self to recognize "this is where I'm at" and doing what I need to to take care of myself.

Hope you have a fulfilling and joyful 2023!
